Junior Coach Pitch is the developmental program designed for 4 and 5 year olds. This program is designed to teach the young player the fundamentals of hitting and fielding in a supportive team environment. All players who are present for the game will bat in order, whether playing defensively or not. Balls are pitched by the team’s coach from a distance of 15 feet and are Reduced Injury Factor balls. The base path is 40 feet. Several adult coaches are stationed beyond the infielders in order to provide instruction to the defensive players.
Senior Coach Pitch is the advanced developmental program designed for 6 and 7 year olds. This program builds on what the player has learned in Junior Coach Pitch and prepares the players for kid pitch baseball. Players are introduced to strikes and outs, thus further developing their baseball knowledge and playing abilities. Balls are pitched by the team’s coach from a distance of 36 feet and are a Reduced Injury Factor ball. The base path is 60 feet. An adult coach is stationed beyond the infielders in order to provide instruction to the defensive players. The Senior Coach Pitch Division introduces the players to post season tournament competition within their division.
Rookie Division is the kid pitch division designed for 8 and 9 year olds. Players compete with players of their own age and experience level and continue building and refining their fundamental skills while learning game strategy. It is in the Rookie Division that players first experience post-season tournament competition with district, state and regional levels of play.
Cal Ripken Division is the most experienced level of
Cal Ripken baseball and is designed for 10, 11 and 12 year olds. Cal Ripken
Baseball is played under the Official Baseball Rules, but implements some
special rules as necessary for the development and welfare of this young age
group. The game is played on a 70-foot diamond with a pitching distance of 50
feet. In order to encourage the league to train more pitchers, there are rules
that set the maximum number of innings a pitcher may pitch in a calendar week.
Regulation games consist of six innings or four innings if a game is called.
Special base running rules are also in effect.
